Liberal Democrats are backing a new proposal for a station in Kenilworth that has just been submitted by Warwickshire County Council to the Department of Transport.

The business case study shows that a Kenilworth station would:

  • attract about 580 rail journeys per day;

  • be good for the environment and the local economy;

  • be financially viable.

Until now train operators using the line through Kenilworth have shown little interest in stopping in the town. However, new rail franchises will be awarded by the Government later this year, so now is the time to persuade them to include Kenilworth station in their franchise specifications.

County councillor John Whitehouse (Liberal Democrat, Abbey) has been leading the fight for a new station before and since his election last year.
