At midnight tonight the Rugby & Kenilworth Liberal Democrat party will cease to exist, and the new Kenilworth & Southam Liberal Democrat party will come into existence.

Kenilworth members and supporters will be joining colleagues from Southam, Wellesbourne, Kineton, Radford Semele, Napton, Lighthorne Heath and other centres to form a new local party based on the boundaries of the new Kenilworth & Southam parliamentary constituency which will come into being at the next General Election.

John Whitehouse, outgoing chairman of Kenilworth Liberal Democrats and vice-chairman of the new local party said:

"We are of course sorry to be saying goodbye to colleagues in Rugby, although the ties built up over many years will not be easily broken. However, we are also looking forward tremendously to the challenges and opportunities that the new constituency will bring. While the Conservatives may start as favourites to win the new seat at the General Election, Liberal Democrats plan to give them a very good run for their money!"
