Grass verge

Lib Dem councillors for Kenilworth Abbey, John Whitehouse (County) and Ann Blacklock (District & Town), have attacked the Tory-controlled County and District Councils for failing to agree a highways grass cutting contract for 2009/10. This follows two years of fruitless negotiations.

Grass verges in towns and village across Warwick District will in future only be cut about 3 times a year. This is similar to what is done along rural roads, and is only half as often as before.

John Whitehouse says: "The two councils are now blaming each other for the mess. In the meantime it is ordinary residents who will suffer. Unkempt rural grass verges can look very pretty in their place, but not in our towns and villages."

Ann Blacklock says: "It seems that Warwick District Council needs twice as much money as the other districts and boroughs in Warwickshire to carry out this work to the same standard. Local council tax payers will want to know why."
