Local M.E.P. Visits Kenilworth Connect2 Scheme

Liz Lynne MEP and Cllr John Whitehouse on the Sustrans Connect2 path in Kenilworth

Liz Lynne, Liberal Democrat West Midlands Member of the European Parliament, visited Kenilworth last Friday to review the Lottery-funded Connect2 walking and cycling path currently under construction.

She was welcomed by local county councillor John Whitehouse (Liberal Democrat, Kenilworth Abbey), who chairs the Steering Group which is overseeing the programme of work to deliver the scheme - a joint Warwickshire County Council and Sustrans project to create safe walking and cycling route linking the town with the university and with the countryside.

Liz Lynne said:

"It's wonderful that Big Lottery money is being used to help fund exciting projects like this in the West Midlands.

"I strongly support the Sustrans Connect2 objective to build new networks of walking and cycling paths in communities across the country. If we are to achieve a carbon free Britain by 2050 we need to encourage all sustainable transport alternatives to the use of the motor car."

John Whitehouse said:

"I'm very grateful to Liz Lynne for coming to Kenilworth to show her support for our local Connect2 scheme. The Liberal Democrats have always had the best 'green' policies of the three main political parties, and local projects like this are a good way of demonstrating how we put words into action."
