Lib Dems Keep the Pressure up on 10:10 Climate Change Commitment

The County Council today backed unanimously a motion from the Liberal Democrats reaffirming its commitment to the national 10:10 climate change campaign. The council had stated in September that it was signing up to 10:10, but since then there had been no further announcements.

Cllr John Whitehouse (Lib Dem spokesman for the Environment) who proposed the motion said after the meeting:

"With the Copenhagen climate change conference in its critical second week, we felt it was vital that the Council demonstrate its total commitment to 10:10 and its determination to take it seriously. We want the county to lead by example, as the best way of spreading the word and getting other people and organisations involved. It should be encouraging its staff to sign up to 10:10 as individuals, and communicating the message to its residents, suppliers, contractors and clients.

"The next full Council meeting will now receive a report detailing the delivery plan by which the county council will achieve the targeted 10% reduction in its carbon footprint by the end of 2010."
